Sports Day

2W have had another eventful week!

On Monday, the boys took part in Sports Day. They worked extremely well as a team and encouraged each other when competing. It was wonderful to see such sportsmanship and kindness.

The boys had a great time completing their Coin Mosaic. They worked diligently to create the Lochinver House School badge with Mr Walker’s face on it!

2W have spent some time consolidating the concepts covered in Mathematics thus far. They also learnt about the features of a diary entry and wrote their own during English lessons.

Science lessons saw the boys learn about the different characteristics of amphibians. They were able to produce detailed fact files which explained what amphibians are, where they live and what they eat.

During History lessons, the boys discussed the traditions of the Olympics and designed their own medal for the 2024 Olympics in Paris! The focus in Geography lessons was on furthering their understanding of different climates and locating both equatorial and polar regions.

International Day

The boys had a wonderful day celebrating International Day! They enthusiastically embraced the challenge of coming in dressed up in a traditional costume.

To start the day, the boys learnt all about Chinese culture. They discussed symbolic colours and pictures and had a go at decorating their own Chinese plate.

The boys were then treated to a visit from parents in Reception and Year 1, where they learnt about Russian Folk Art. The boys thoroughly enjoyed making their own horse in Dymkovo style!

2W eagerly took part in a competition! They were assigned a country and had to decorate the door to represent that country. The boys were excited to learn that they had been given Switzerland! They discussed what Switzerland is like and furthered their understanding of the country so that they could decorate our door. They did a superb job! Can you spot the chocolate and cheese?

To end the day, the boys learnt all about Malaysia! Nishant’s dad kindly explained to the boys where Malaysia is located, what the weather is like and the different languages that are spoken there. The boys loved finding out more about famous sports, foods, festivals, nature and animals.

Thank you to all the parents who took the time to come in and talk to the boys. The boys had a truly fantastic day!

The Bee Musical!

The boys wowed their audience on Wednesday with their tremendous performance of ‘The Bee Musical’. We are immensely proud of the boys’ effort to learn their lines, sing their hearts out and perform with such confidence. It was a delightful way to mark the boys’ end of their three years in the Pre-prep, the progress that they have all made is commendable.

During our Science lesson, the boys took a trip to our school pond! They thoroughly enjoyed going on a minibeast hunt to identify different minibeasts and their habitats. The boys were able to further their understanding of different organisms and the optimum conditions required to sustain life forms.

Maths lessons have seen the boys continue their work on 2D shapes. Grammar lessons have focused on reviewing the content covered thus far. The boys were able to identify the appropriate punctuation for different sentences, write commands, write the plural of different words and use prefixes.

The boys learnt all about the traditions of the Olympic Games during History and designed pictograms to represent weather patterns in their Geography lesson. They were able to use pictograms to compare the weather in two different locations and could explain how the weather varies inland and in coastal areas.

It has been another week of celebrating the boys many successes, congratulations to all the boys of 2W!

Hitting the right note!

This week, in Year 2, the boys have enjoyed reading ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. The focus during lessons was on being able to retrieve and infer information from a text.

For our Maths lessons, the boys have continued their work on 2D shapes. They were able to identify the number of sides on a 2D shape, count the vertices in a polygon and have begun to identify lines of symmetry.

During Science lessons, the boys have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about bees! They demonstrated an excellent understanding of why pollination is important, how it occurs and were able to name different minibeasts that are pollinators. The boys then utilised this information to produce a poster detailing how local environments can be made bee-friendly. Ask you son to explain the different strategies that can be put into place!

History saw the boys begin their new topic on the Olympics! They were able to investigate what the Olympic Games are and how they began. For our Geography lessons the boys identified the difference between seasonal and daily weather patterns. They then constructed a key to represent the different types of weather.

A huge congratulations to all of the boys in Year 2 for their fantastic Recorder Recital. The boys demonstrated their musicality and played beautifully – superb work boys!
