MAF

This week Year 2 have been learning about The Wright Brothers and how their invention changed the world!

The boys could think of lots of uses for aircraft. However, yesterday some visitors from MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) came to talk to us. They explained how small aircraft are used to deliver aid in remote parts of the world.

In remote parts of the word there are often barriers that stop people getting the help they need. These barriers include floods, mud slides, mountain ranges and wildlife! Sometimes the only way to get there is to fly!

The boys got chance to act out an emergency!

Prior to our MAF visit, the boys all made paper aeroplanes in class. The planes were judged by our visitors and Marios won a prize!

A Scientific Week

On Tuesday the Astronomy Roadshow visited Lochiver. We all went inside a large, dark, inflatable dome and looked at the stars! The boys were shown some of the patterns in the stars. I wonder if they could spot them in the real sky!

On Wednesday we visited the Science Labs. The boys worked really hard testing different circuits. They all made a circuit with a bulb, wires, a battery and a switch.

Measuring

The boys have been using cm and m to measure different items. They have found accuracy quite a challenge!

If you get chance to practise using a ruler or tape measure that would be great.

Below is a game that will help. Please only do the “measuring length” section as we haven’t covered the other activities yet.

Electricity

This week we have talked about how to make a simple circuit. The boys enjoyed using this website

Next week we will visit the science Labs to make real circuits. Photographs will follow!

What’s the Time?

This week the boys have been telling the time on digital and analogue clocks. Below is a great website to practise this at home

http://resources.oswego.org/games/ClassClock/clockres.html

If you use the circular arrow button on the right side of the screen the clock changes to digital. We have focused on o’clock and half past times but he have touched on other times too.

We have also worked on the order of the days of the week and months of the year. The months proved rather challenging for some so it might be helpful if you could chant them together at home.

Have a lovely weekend!

Feeling Festive

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely Half Term.

It might seem a little early to be talking about Christmas but our Christmas play rehearsals have started already. There are two main ways you can help you son to prepare for the play

1. Please can you help your son to practise his lines. Everyone brought home a yellow script before Half Term. If you have mis placed yours please do let me know and I can get another for you.

2. Please can you help your son to learn the following Christmas Carols
