Mandir Trip

On Wednesday morning we braved the rain and traffic to visit the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden.  An unexpected and stunning building in the heart of North London that offers a sense of quietude and calm (even with 40 Year 2 boys).  Suffice to say the Mandir is something many of the boys and adults had not seen the like of before.  We learnt about the history of Hinduism as well as how there came to be such an awe inspiring building in this part of London.  Unfortunately photos were not allowed however I have posted a picture of the outside, from a sunnier day.  If you get the chance I would recommend you visit.

A big thank you again to our parent helpers!

Timetable Trouble

There was nearly a disaster in 2M today as I lost the class timetable and we didn’t know what lessons we were supposed to be doing.  I was able to remember some things about the timetable and luckily the boys were able to use this and a few clues to fill in the rest of the timetable for me.  Otherwise we would have had to have playtime all day and we couldn’t have that!

Thank you boys.

Sink or Float?

This week in science we looked at materials which sink or float as part of our materials topic.  We learnt that size does not make a difference but that weight does, and that sometimes materials hold air inside them which help them float.  We also did an investigation into designing foil boats to hold a maximum number of marbles before it sank.

Church Trip

We had a wonderful time at the Christchurch on Little Heath yesterday.  We found out the names of the different things you would see in a church and their jobs, such as a pulpit, alter, stained glass windows and prayer mats (including a Lochinver House one).  We even had the opportunity of ringing the bell, I hope we didn’t disturb the neighbours.

Thank you for the parents that came to help us too.

Riddle me this!

Over the weekend think carefully about the answer to this riddle:

What flies without wings?

You can either write on here what you think the answer is or write it in your reading record.

Good luck!

Carrier bag investigation

Today in science we did an investigation into which material would be best if we had to make our own shopping bag.  We tested plastic, fabric, paper, tin foil and a  sheet of metal.  We had already decided that a shopping bag should be strong (for all the goodies), flexible (so you can fill it up easily) and waterproof (in case it rains on the way back).  Having decided this we tested each material for each property.  Which do you think we decided would be best?

Geography

This week in geography we  learnt about the continents and oceans of the world.  We also learnt how to use an atlas to help us label and locate the oceans and continents onto a map of our own.
