The programme introduces the 500 Words competition run by BBC Radio 2. The boys planned some ideas for their story and will bring their planning sheets home today. We would like to encourage all boys to write their story and submit their entries online. There are some great prizes and they might even get published!

Please use the link below to find out more and to submit your entry. If you decide to take part please do send a copy into school so we can see it. We are also happy for all Year 2 boys not to complete their Story Spelling Challenge homework next week in order to take part in this competition.

The stories should be as creative and imaginative as possible.

Recycle-o-Bot

Today your son will have designed a “Recycle-o-Bot”. This is a robot made out of junk!

I have told them that they are responsible to collect and bring in the junk they need. They will have written a list of their junk on a Post It note which is stuck into their Reading Record Book. Please can you help them collect the things they need and bring them into school no later than Thursday 1st February.

Thank you!

Changing Materials

Today we visited the labs to see how materials change when they are heated. We heated water, ice, chocolate, marshmallows and a metal screw.

Can you describe what happened to each item?

Try and use some of these words-

heat

melt

steam

boil

reversible change

irreversible change

Characteristics of Materials

Today we learnt about the characteristics of materials. We carried out an investigation to see if different materials could be twisted, squashed, stretched and bent.

Do you remember which objects could be stretched and twisted?

Which objects were we unable to change?

The boys enjoyed using the BBC Science Clips website. Please use this link to access at home,

The William Morris Gallery

We had an excellent trip to The William Morris Gallery. The boys enjoyed learning about William Morris and his many talents. The printing workshop was lots of fun and we are hoping to display the work by the year 2 pegs.

Please comment below which anything you enjoyed about the day.
