All things Christmas!

Well, it has been so festive in 2WM since the start of December. We hope you enjoyed our nativity play ‘Everyone Loves a Baby!’ as much as we did. We can’t believe that is our last nativity and next year we will be in Year 3! Wow!

On Monday, we had a visit from a pantomime company who told us the story of Peter Pan.

‘Oh no they didn’t!’

‘Oh yes they did!’

Yesterday we had Christmas Lunch, a magic show and a very special visitor who brought us each a present!

Mrs. Ward, Mrs. May and Ms. Morrissey would like to thank all the parents for their support this term and also for the very thoughtful gifts. Have a lovely holiday and we can’t wait for next term!

Stained Glass Windows and Dancing Shoes…

There has been much excitement this week in anticipation of the disco and it has been lovely seeing the boys breaking out their dance moves at breaktimes.

There have been nativity rehearsals and two times tables in maths but the highlight of the boys’ week was making stained glass windows in art which are brightening up our classroom and corridor. We look forward to you seeing them at the open classroom on Monday.

Do ask the boys about the kindness challenges that Mr Wadge gave them in assembly today, we look forward to hearing if they have done any!

What a busy week!

Our week started with a nutritious breakfast where we took the opportunity to share a meal together to mark the start of well-being week at Lochinver.

Our well-being week ties in with national anti-bullying week and like children all over the country we wore odd socks to celebrate the fact that we are all different. This was also theme of our PSHE this week where we looked at the ‘Make Some Noise’ anti-bullying campaign and recognised what to do if we, or someone we knew was being bullied.

On Wednesday, Ms Morrissey was very impressed when she went to see our PE lesson with Mr Barth, where we were learning the ‘triple threat’ basketball position and the correct technique for dribbling.

Thursday was a really exciting day because we went all the way up to the senior science labs to learn how to make electrical circuits. Mrs Barry was very impressed with our circuit drawings and is looking forward to us coming back later in the term for some more investigations.

This week in 2WM

This week was all about assemblies with both our own class assembly and the Remebrance assembly where Year 7 helped us to understand the importance of Remembrance Day. In the spirit of remembrance we created our own poppy pictures in art.

We have also been working hard on the songs for our nativity play in music lessons.

Remember odd socks and breakfast on Monday as we start Well-being Week.

Remember, remember…

It has been fantastic to see all the boys back after our lovely long holiday and we jumped straight into rehearsals for the much anticipated Nativity play. Please make sure that your son knows his lines by Monday!

In English the boys have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and they were able to relay their knowledge expertly to Miss Paynter in her assembly while also reviewing the safety rules around Bonfire Night.

After a week of rain, the boys were delighted to get back on the adventure playground! Just look at their faces!

In maths the class have been investigating different methods of subtraction and in science we have started our new topic on Electricity. The boys were identifying whether appliances were mains or battery powered, identifying electrical hazards around the house and experimenting with creating electrical circuits to light an LED.

In PE, we have been working on our ball skills. We used basketballs before half term and made it harder this half term by using a selection of smaller balls to develop our distribution and gathering skills.

The boys look forward to welcoming you to our class assembly at 8 :35 am on Wednesday morning.

Happy Half Term!

Don’t worry about making lunch during half term – 2WM are expert sandwich makers!

First, we looked at the instructions we wrote last week about how to make a sandwich.

Then, we chose the ingredients we were going to need.

Finally, we made our sandwiches.

We used lots of imperative (bossy) verbs to make our sandwiches like spread, cut, put, choose and most importantly eat!

They were delicious!

In English we retold the story of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic and Mrs. Ward, Mrs. May and Ms. Morrissey were really impressed with all of the details that we remembered.

Ask us about the story when we are at home and we will tell you all about Mr.  and Mrs. Grinling’s latest adventures.

In maths we started looking at subtraction and we will continue with this when we come back after half term. In Science we were very sensible when learning about how medicines help us and how to make sure we are safe.

We are really looking forward to our assembly on the 8th November, please help us keep practicing our lines so we don’t forget them over the holidays. We also need to start learning our lines for the nativity please – you will find the scripts in our bookbags.

Have a lovely half term and we are back on Monday 30th October!

Perform!

What an exciting week we have had!

On Wednesday we enhanced our humanities learning about the seaside by taking part in a Perform workshop. We played games and did lots of drama activities about the seaside now and in the Victorian times.

We have also started rehearsing for our class assembly. Our scripts went home yesterday and we would really like some help learning our words so that we can wow you all on Wednesday 11th October!

We have also started learning the songs for our assembly so if you could help us rehearse them too it would be a great help!

Food Groups Rock

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

We’re gonna have some fun when breakfast comes

’cause food groups are rockin’ tonight

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

We’re gonna have some fun when lunchtime comes

’cause food groups are rockin’ tonight

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

Food groups are rockin’ tonight

We’re gonna have some fun when dinner comes

’cause food groups are rockin’ tonight

Oh I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside

Oh, I do like to be beside the sea

Oh, I do like to stroll along the prom, prom, prom

where the brass bands play tiddley-om-pom-pom

So, just let me be beside the seaside

I’ll be beside myself with glee

For there’s lots of pearls beside

I should like to be beside, beside the seaside

beside the sea

In Maths this week we were learning how to add two digit numbers by renaming and we were learning all about our heart and thinking about the changes to our body when we exercise in science.

This helped us understand our bodies in our PE lesson where we were developing our ball skills by bouncing, dribbling, throwing and catching basketballs.

We are looking forward to a sunny weekend and then it is the last week before our first half-term in Year 2 is complete!

This Week!

What a busy week we have had in 2WM. In English the boys have been learning all about imperative verbs and have used this knowledge to write instructions for how to make a sandwich.

In maths we have been adding two digit numbers in lots of different ways and in geography we have been finding out about the seas around Britain.

In Art we painted colourful beach huts – do look out for them at our open classroom on Wednesday!

In science we are continuing to learn about being healthy and we tried lots of different exercises for one minute to see if they made our heart rate go up or go down. Ask us about all the different types of exercise you can do to keep healthy.

Then this morning, we took our responsibility to help vote for the headboys’ charities this year very seriously! We listened carefully to the six presentations in the whole school assembly and then came back to class and decided on the three we wanted to vote for. Check the bulletin to see which charities won the vote!

Welly Time, Pin Wheels, PE and Maths!

The boys enjoyed getting outside for Welly Time this week. There was plenty to find and use for collages.

They made brightly coloured pin wheels

And tried to catch as many ‘tails’ as they could in PE

In maths on Friday we used our understanding of number patterns to challenge our friends to work out the pattern and fill in the missing numbers.

How many number patterns can you think of? Try to start on different numbers.

First Whole Week Back!

Gabe’s mum kindly brought us in some apple and honey to celebrate Rosh Hashona, the Jewish New Year. The apple represents the roundness of the new year and the honey is a wish for a sweet New Year!

We have been learning about place value in maths, writing postcards in English and getting some beautiful displays on the walls for open morning on September 30th.

Our humanities has been linked to our English work – can your son remember any of the continents we have been identifying?

The boys enjoyed getting back onto the adventure playground this week as you can tell by their smiles!

The boys have also been learning about the uses and features of information technology in computing.

Can they find examples of information technology in your home?
